It's like a MOBA, an AoS if you will, but with Blizzard characters. Also free to play.

And what makes this particular MOBA superior to all the other dota/LoL ripoffs? I won't suddenly start eating Blizzard Burgers just because it has the Blizzard name in it. Give me the Eaglepill.

No shops/gold/items, instead there is a talent system in which you can choose 1 of different choices to upgrade your hero in one way or another every few levels, and at level ten you can choose 1 of two ultimates, lanes consist of 2 mini bases called forts, each has two towers, a healing fountain which heals you for some health and mana over time with a long cool down and a main fort building, jungles consist of mercenary camps which will help you in laning when killed, except in one battleground in which they just give you usable items that help you, there are many battlegrounds each has it's own objectives that are really cool like controlling a big dragon or firing laser beams at enemy forts or getting skulls to power up a skull golem to push with you, these are few examples. which help you through out the game, exp is shared across the whole team, also you don't need to "last hit" the minions to get exp, really cool hero designs like Cho'Gall which is controlled by two players at the same time, Lost Vikings which are 3 mini heroes controlled by one player and Tracer which can auto attack while moving and has one ultimate which she can use at the start of the game unlike all the heroes, the main objective is of course destroying the enemy core, and it has all your favorite heroes from Blizzard games! (well, most, but heroes get introduced every month.)

In short, the following image is a list of playable heroes. If you play HOTS in the next two weeks for the 2.0 opening, you get a free hero bundle of heroes for one of the four roles: Tanks/ Bruisers, Assassins, Flex, and Supports/ Specs.

In addition to these heroes, each hero has custom skins, each in three tints. Heroes 2.0 will implement the loot boxes from Over Watch for future skins. New, interesting additions includes taunting, a limited all chat, and, as above, a new hero roughly each month with continuous development to the game.

Nothing really, its appeal is that it's mechanically inferior to those games. It is a much more casual experience with shorter games, there are no items, you don't level up skills every level but instead you pick a talent every 3 levels I think. The biggest thing it has going for it is the different maps, it has more than 10 maps with different objectives and different design which makes it easier to spam games since it doesn't feel like you're doing the same thing over and over again. The problem is of course that there are no items which really limits hero customization so it's not that diverse in my opinion. Heroes on their own are fun to play though, and different enough that you won't feel like one is just a carbon copy of the other, which actually starts to annoy you when you realise that you can't play most of them unless you pay for them.

The business model is absolutely atrocious but apparently they're fixing it in this update, although you still have to buy heroes which is a travesty. They still sell skins for the heroes you have to buy and apparently now you have loot boxes since gambling makes devs more money (ask Valve they're rolling in it because of the chests). Basically it's a casual MOBA with Blizzard characters that imitated LoL but unlike Riot Blizzard was actually capable of making a fun game, albeit a shallow one that bores the crap out of me if I try to play it for more than an hour. Also I just can't take a game that makes you buy heroes seriously, I mean seriously, it's the dumbest F2P model there is. Also the game didn't have an all chat, I'm not 5 years old Blizzard, I don't need you protecting me from the bad people on the internet, I can mute chat on my own thank you very much.

So yeah, a casual game, which is great if you're just looking for something to play in short bursts, but I can't get past the idiotic business model and the fact that they treat the players as if they were retarded (Riot's "burden of knowledge" infected more than one game it seems). To put it simply, it's a MOBA, DotA 2 is an ARTS, some people say it's the same thing, but nah.

Alright, so it doesn't require much time invested into it at all to enjoy it and has plenty of variety in game modes, i'll give it a try.

Shame that you can't play all heroes from start, that's always been the biggest problem in MOBAs/ARTS that have a thousand heros, you end up getting bored of the same ones.

We both know you're a Big Pharma ally, you SSRI-delivering, dick-flashing, lousy, lying filthy animal.

Haven't played the game since it first came out. I just played a few matches with Probius and have to say those were the best games of a moba I had in my life. I have no clue what changed, but I really like the game it is right now.

I find it to be way more polished than other mobas and far less autistic.

If you're concerned about a lack of heroes to play, there's a free mega bundle you can get if you play right now.

Also items are autistic. Desert of Exile was one of the best AoS' because of the lack of focus on items.

I played when Heroes first came out for quite a while, and the only reason it kinda faded out of my interest is because I would only play randoms, and the random players eventually wore me down with their utter stupidity. I played last night with a few people from here, which was my first time playing since August, basically, and I had a blast. Honestly, the game play itself hasn't changed all THAT much except for the addition of a bunch of new maps and some tweaks to specific characters, but their whole overall system seems a bit more engaging with how you get heroes and skins etc.

I never liked items in moba. People will cry and shriek that it adds character customization, when really, it usually ends up that there's one path of items that everyone NEEDS to take with a specific character that are by far the best, with very few minor variations for different circumstances. It's a stepping stone within the game that rewards people not based on any level of skill or strategy, but simply those who have ground out certain characters the longest, or who dedicate out of game time to finding the right strategy guide. Another thing HotS gets right that other mobas don't are the objectives. To some varying degree the objectives bring players from the opposite teams together to do battle. Sometimes it's 1v1, 2v2, 3v2, or the entirety of both teams. No matter what you're gonna be in direct combat at some point, pretty much. In other mobas some people specifically try to avoid players. In my opinion a victory won after engaging the other team is a lot more satisfying than one you'd win after basically playing the game by yourself until you're powerful enough to stomp people simply because no one stopped you. The shared exp helps with this also.

Overall I'd say this is my favorite moba. Is it fairly simple and straight forward to understand? Yes. To me these are strengths so that I can focus on the parts of the game that are the most fun--battling and creating a strategy to win. To be fair I'm not trying to spend 10 hours a day playing a moba, but this is good for like 2-3 hours of play if you get on a roll. In the end, I'd definitely recommend trying it out.

"Any intelligent fool can make things bigger and more complex.. It takes a touch of genius and a lot of courage to move in the opposite direction."

It is perhaps not the hardcore's MOBA, but for you that take part in a large circle of friends that plays a multitude of different games together it is pure gold. It is fun, fast and most importantly easy to get into.
